December 2016

I haven't been able to produce any major new work since successfully completed a large commission just in time for Christmas 2012. It took just over 360 hours to complete, which was a bit of a marathon. After a long think, I decided not to exhibit in 2013, other than in my studio. 18 orthopaedic surgeries since 2001 have meant the pressure to work and exhibit has been immense. I had I hoped that 2013 would be a more restful year and I intended to try and experiment with different painting styles, as well as produce some more 3D work, however, the fickle finger of fate had slightly different plans and I wasn't able to paint at all in 2013 because of neck problems. I had yet another op in October 2013 to try and fix the issues. I started painting again in February 2014, and to be honest, it was more difficult than I imagined as hand control really suffered because of neural issues from pre-op nerve damage. However, since I try very hard not to give in to stuff like that, I practiced lots and produced a series of 10x3cm wooden keyring pieces in different designs (see gallery 6), most of which have since sold . Late in 2014 I completed three intricately decorated framed mirrors (also in gallery 6) and worked for five months on a beautiful decorated yew  bowl (see gallery 6). After the initial year of post-op improvement, things started to go downhill again. To be honest, my hand control and sensation really aren't too good at all and painting to the same standard is now virtually impossible. The frustration in trying has been immense and sad to say that for the time being, further painting has been put on hold indefinitely.

I exhibited with Surrey Artists Open Studios again in June 2016 with my son, talented young and upcoming photographer Ben Miller ( which went well and it was fantastic to meet so many lovely people. Thank you to all of those who took the time to visit. It means so very much to an artist that people take the time to appreciate what you do. This was my last exhibition for the forseeable future but I still intend to keep my studio open so if you'd like to visit my studio at any time, please contact me via the website. All year round, I have original art, limited edition prints, hand made greetings cards and some 3D work on display and for sale.
